Familiar Faces and Stadium Atmosphere

Like I said in a previous post, the crowd was electric during the game against FC Dallas. It may have had something to do with the following people:

I don't think there is anything more exciting in MLS than RFK after a DC United goal. Arguments can be made for other teams but when you see the stands bounce, the confetti flying from every part of the stadium and that enormous banner, you just get chills. Notice how the smoke rises from the stands over at La Barra Brava.

Here's La Norte's attempt at the flares. Wasn't as successful. The smoke kind of just gathered as a cloud in their section. Eventually the smoke moved onto the field. Needless to say, the humorless stadium security did not find it funny. I overheard that if they set off another one, the would remove the entire section. I told you, humorless.

Now for a couple familiar faces:

EL DIABLO
It's pretty easy to see why Marco Etcheverry earned the nickname. All the little girl wanted was an autograph.

Obviously I'm kidding about the story with the little girl. Marco actually signed autographs longer than any other player. In fact he was still signing while the teams were trotting onto the field.

John Harkes was an amazing player. He's also rumored to have a pretty good sense of humor. I think it has more to do with the fact that he kind of looks like Jim Carrey. While other people may not think so, I'll continue to stand by my assertion.

Honorable Mentions:
Bruce Arena in the vicinity as was Raul Diaz Arce. Weren't those first few seasons incredible?

In the news: The Washington Times has a pretty good article about DC soccer fans. The article does kind of hate on the Nats fans, but it is true that they don't really have much enthusiasm. I've never seen a Nats flag. It would be interesting to see what a baseball game would look like with the chants, flags, flares, and streamers in the background. At any rate, the article made me feel good.
