What's the 411?
Ok so maybe the DCU info isn't as interesting as I may have hinted it to be. Well either way it's only info that would interest hardcore DC United fans. Ok so here it goes:
Since Peter Novak's system consists of 3 defenders (and it doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon), at the end of last season he was put in a bit of a predicament. Peter Novak had to choose between two pretty good central defenders (i.e. Bobby Boswell & Facundo Erpen) while pretty much leaving the outside defender positions to Bryan Namoff and Brandon Prideaux. To be perfectly honest, as overall defenders Boswell and Erpen are at least a couple levels above Prideaux and Namoff. Not only that but Erpen and Boswell are only 22 (7 and 4 years younger than Prideaux and Namoff) and have a long-term possibility with the team. So Peter Novak had to bench at least one defender with endless potential.
Now my unconfirmable source tells me that there are plans to make Erpen the starting center back and, instead of benching Boswell, transitioning him to the right back. And out of left field to be the left back? John Wilson!
Crazy, I know. But after I noodled it, it seems to have a possibility to work. This rainbow coalition of defenders as a group have the mobility to keep up with teams and the size to match up against pretty much and offensive this league can throw at them. Think about it. John Wilson has a propensity to run up the flanks. No problem Erpen shifts to mid-left and Boswell to mid-right. Set pieces are neutalized because of Boswell's size and Rimando can relax and stay in position. I think it may work if they can play together and can read each other well.
What do you think, crazy ramblings? or legitimate possibility.
also...Lucio Filomeno was still heavily nursing his knee during the games he played. That same source says that he's much MUCH better than any of us think. Word has it that if he's healthy for next season, he will not even last a second season in the MLS (cause he'll go overseas or to the high quality teams of South America). I don't know about this one but it's a possibility.

Interesting...
Hmmm...
Does Boz have the speed to be on a wing like that? Not sure... and you can't teach speed, but perhaps you can teach positioning.
As for Filomeno... if he's that good, why try to negotiate the pay cut?
All very interesting, and I am watching closely.
Yeah, I forgot to mention Boswell's speed. He could always train with a weighted vest.
I guess the problem is that if Erpen is a better CB than Boswell and Boswell could be better than Namoff/Prideaux at RB, what would a coach do?
That's a problem that has to be addressed either way
I'm hoping Namoff has a season more like he did in 2004 than this one - where he was coming back from injuries. I think Nelsen made a comment to the effect that Brian was underrated.
